Sunflowers

Vincent van Gogh was famous for his paintings of Sunflowers and they have now become synonymous with his name. He began painting them after he left Holland for France in pursuit of creating an artistic community. The first ones were created to decorate his friend Paul Gauguin's bedroom in the so-called "Yellow House" that they were renting in Arles in the South of France. The majority of Van Gogh's sunflowers in vases were created here during 1888-1889.
